Amnesty and Oxfam warn of displacement in the occupied West Bank

Amnesty International and Oxfam released reports this week detailing an increase in state-backed Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank. The organizations documented 1,200 instances of settler violence between January 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, resulting in the displacement of 2,000 Palestinians. These attacks, which include physical assaults, property destruction, and the theft of livestock, are often carried out with the complicity or direct involvement of Israeli forces, according to the reports. Amnesty International stated that Israeli authorities have failed to provide adequate protection for Palestinians and have not held perpetrators accountable. Oxfam highlighted that this violence exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the West Bank, hindering access to essential services like water and healthcare. The reports call for an immediate end to settler violence and for accountability for those responsible, urging international bodies to exert pressure on the Israeli government to uphold its obligations under international law.
