Despite a surge in passenger volume in 2026, travelers are reporting higher satisfaction levels with their airport experiences across North America, according to the latest annual North America Airport Satisfaction Study conducted by JD Power. This positive trend signifies a notable shift in passenger sentiment, with overall satisfaction scores seeing substantial increases across all airport size categories. Mega-airports, defined by their high passenger traffic, experienced a 14-point jump on JD Power's 1,000-point scale. Large airports saw an impressive 13-point gain, while medium-sized airports demonstrated the most significant improvement with a 16-point increase.

The driving force behind this enhanced passenger contentment is not a mystery, as JD Power's report clearly indicates. The highest-ranked airports have consistently invested heavily in multi-year, billion-dollar-plus capital improvement projects. In the "mega" airport category, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) has once again claimed the top spot, achieving a score of 684. This marks the third consecutive year that MSP has been recognized as the best in its class, underscoring its sustained commitment to passenger service and facility excellence. Following closely behind, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) secured the second position with a score of 663, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) ranked third with 642. These major hubs have demonstrably focused on modernizing their infrastructure and amenities to cater to the demands of a growing air travel market.

Within the "large" airport segment, Tampa International Airport (TPA) emerged as the leader, achieving a commendable score of 715. This represents a significant upward movement from its second-place ranking in the previous year. Portland International Airport (PDX) secured the second-best position with a score of 708.
