American Airlines and Hyatt End Enhanced Loyalty Partnership, Phasing Out Reciprocal Earning

American Airlines' AAdvantage loyalty program and World of Hyatt, a leading hospitality company, have jointly announced the termination of their enhanced loyalty partnership, a collaboration that commenced in 2019. This strategic alliance was designed to foster greater engagement among the members of both programs by offering reciprocal earning opportunities. Under the original terms, elite members of World of Hyatt were eligible to earn one bonus World of Hyatt point for every U.S. dollar spent on qualifying flights booked with American Airlines. Concurrently, elite members of American Airlines' AAdvantage program could earn one bonus AAdvantage mile for every U.S. dollar spent on qualifying stays at World of Hyatt properties. These direct reciprocal earning benefits officially concluded on December 31, 2024.

In joint press releases issued on September 9, both American Airlines and World of Hyatt confirmed their mutual decision to "not continue our enhanced relationship." Despite this shift, the companies have expressed a strong commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for their members. They have emphasized that members will continue to be able to earn benefits through the current earning year for each respective program. This commitment extends to providing the standard timeframe for members to select an award once it has been earned. The announcements assure members that there will be "no interruption in earning, selecting and redeeming their eligible benefits" for the remainder of each program's current earning cycle.

The practical implications of this partnership's winding down include a definitive deadline for linking accounts. November 15 will mark the final day for members to connect their AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts. However, a significant benefit for those who link their accounts by this date is the extended earning window for certain awards. American Airlines AAdvantage members will be able to continue earning World of Hyatt awards through American's Loyalty Point Rewards program until February 28, 2027. Conversely, World of Hyatt members will have until December 31, 2026, to earn American Airlines AAdvantage awards via Hyatt's Milestone Rewards.

American Airlines' Loyalty Point Rewards program, a key component of its elite status qualification, offers members opportunities to earn World of Hyatt benefits at specific milestones achieved within an elite-qualifying year. These benefits can range from automatic perks to a selection of choices at various Loyalty Point thresholds. For instance, achieving 100,000 Loyalty Points within an elite-qualifying year grants World of Hyatt Discoverist status. Further milestones, such as reaching 175,000 and 250,000 Loyalty Points, allow members to choose World of Hyatt Explorist status. Additional tiers at 400,000, 550,000, and 750,000 Loyalty Points offer further choices of World of Hyatt benefits, underscoring the value of the extended earning period for linked accounts.
