Judge Dismisses Baldwin's Civil Rights Suit Against 'Rust' Prosecutors

A federal judge on Wednesday dismissed significant portions of actor Alec Baldwin's civil rights lawsuit against the prosecutors involved in the "Rust" film shooting case. The judge ruled that the prosecutors are entitled to prosecutorial immunity, a legal doctrine that shields government officials from liability for actions taken in their official capacity. During a rehearsal, a prop firearm discharged, fatally striking cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin, who was holding the weapon at the time, has maintained that he did not pull the trigger and believed the firearm was safe. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings have been complex, involving multiple legal challenges and changes in the prosecution team.
