Afghanistan Floods Kill 20, Leave 105 Missing

At least 20 people were killed and more than 80 injured by flooding in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, as confirmed by the country’s disaster management agency on Monday. The severe weather event has caused significant financial and human losses in the remote region.

In Parun, the provincial capital, the situation is particularly dire, with 105 individuals reported missing. Among those unaccounted for is the mayor of Parun. Feraidon Samim, a spokesperson for the Nuristan governor, provided these details regarding the ongoing crisis.

The national disaster management agency has declared a state of emergency, acknowledging the profound impact of the floods. Efforts to assess the full extent of the damage and to conduct rescue operations are underway, though the remote nature of Nuristan presents considerable challenges. The agency has stated that the province has suffered "severe financial and human losses."
