Jil Sander and Thonet Expand Furniture Collection

Jil Sander and Thonet have expanded their collaborative JS. THONET furniture collection with new iterations of the S 411 lounge chair and the S 1070 table, as announced in 2026. This expansion builds upon their initial partnership, which debuted with nesting tables in 2025. The collection is characterized by a fusion of Thonet's iconic tubular steel Bauhaus design heritage, particularly influenced by Marcel Breuer's work, with Jil Sander's signature tactile luxury and minimalist aesthetic. Both brands share a commitment to timeless design, intuitive functionality, and superior craftsmanship. To ensure authenticity and underscore the premium nature of the collaboration, each new piece is marked with a "JS. THONET" engraving on its steel frame. The S 411 lounge chair, a reimagining of a classic Thonet design originally from 1932, features a distinctive S-shaped tubular steel frame. This frame curves fluidly into armrest coverings that evoke the appearance of skate blades, contributing to a sense of sculptural lightness. Jil Sander has updated the chair by upholstering its generously cushioned sprung seat entirely in leather. This upholstery is applied with a specialized minimal seam technique and piped backing, resulting in a serene, monolithic visual effect. Complementing the seating, a matching S 411 H footstool has also been introduced to enhance lounge comfort. The S 411 lounge chair is designed to integrate seamlessly with the B 97 nesting tables, which were part of the collection's 2025 launch. The collection is further strengthened by the S 1070 table, which presents a contemporary interpretation of a 2004 concept by designer Glen Oliver Löw. This table is envisioned as a minimalist centerpiece suitable for dining or conference settings. It features a substantial tabletop measuring 220 by 100 centimeters, which is notably divided lengthwise down its center. The collection is offered in two distinct lines: SERIOUS and NORDIC, each signifying a particular design sensibility within the broader JS. THONET aesthetic. Thonet, founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet, is a historic German furniture manufacturer renowned for its pioneering use of bentwood and tubular steel in furniture design, establishing a legacy deeply rooted in the Bauhaus movement. Jil Sander, a German fashion designer, founded her eponymous brand in 1968 and is celebrated for her minimalist, architectural approach to fashion, emphasizing high-quality materials and precise tailoring.
