Richard Malone's Fabric Sculptures Displayed at EU Council

Irish artist Richard Malone's colorful fabric creations are currently on display within the glass buildings of the EU Council in Brussels, coinciding with Ireland's turn at the EU presidency. Malone, who works from a farm in Stradbally, County Laois, discussed his artistic process and inspirations in an interview. His studio environment, described as having "lovely lambs everywhere and about 20 dogs running around," influences his large-scale works.

Malone's sculptures, some reaching five meters in height, are constructed in expansive lambing sheds on the farm. The artist noted the significance of his current exhibition, stating, "A lot of art in Ireland was made by one type of man," implying a desire to broaden the representation within the art world. He also touched upon his collaborations, mentioning working with the musician Björk, and drew parallels between his artistic approach and his father's work as a decorator.

The exhibition highlights Malone's distinctive style, characterized by bold yet delicate fabric sculptures.
