7-year-old mourns father and brother killed in Israeli strike on Gaza
A 7-year-old child in Gaza mourned the loss of their father and brother following an Israeli airstrike. The strike occurred on May 22, 2024, in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. The father, identified as Mahmoud Al-Zaharna, was a baker, and his son, 16-year-old Ahmed, was killed alongside him. The family had been displaced multiple times since the conflict began in October 2023. The United Nations has reported that over 36,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the conflict escalated, with a significant portion being women and children. International bodies continue to call for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid access to the region.
