Google Search Integrates Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite AI Model

Google announced the release of three new AI models: Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber, with Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite beginning its rollout for Google Search this week. This model is described by Google as its "fastest, most cost-effective 3.5-class model, delivering 350 output tokens per second," according to the Artificial Analysis Index. Google stated that 3.5 Flash-Lite significantly outperforms prior Flash-Lite generations in agentic workflows. The company indicated that this model is being implemented for agentic search within Google Search, and it may also be utilized for Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Google had previously announced advancements in information agents and agentic experiences for Google Search at Google I/O in May, with Liz Reid, the head of Google Search, stating, "We’re entering the era of Search agents, where you can easily create, customize and manage multiple Al agents for your many tasks, right in Search." The Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite model is rolling out to all users via the Gemini app and directly within Google Search. These updates signify Google's ongoing efforts to enhance its AI models, particularly focusing on faster, lower-end models that are frequently employed in Google Search, suggesting users may soon observe these improvements in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and agentic search functionalities.
