Subaru Launches 2027 BRZ and WRX Special Editions

Subaru has announced special "Birthday Edition" models for both the 2027 BRZ and WRX, commemorating significant anniversaries for each vehicle in the United States. The Subaru BRZ, a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, is celebrating its 15th anniversary since its introduction to the U.S. market. Concurrently, the Subaru WRX, a performance-oriented sedan known for its all-wheel-drive system and rally-inspired heritage, is marking its 25th anniversary in the U.S. These special editions are expected to feature unique styling cues and potentially performance enhancements to distinguish them from standard models.

The BRZ "Birthday Edition" will be limited to 200 units and will be based on the BRZ Premium trim. It will feature a distinctive "Sunrise Yellow" exterior paint, a color not previously offered on the BRZ. Inside, the "Birthday Edition" will include "BRZ 15th Anniversary" badging on the driver's side dashboard and a black interior with yellow accent stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shift boot, and door panels. The car will also come with a "Birthday Edition" key fob and a custom car cover. Mechanically, the "Birthday Edition" BRZ retains the standard 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine, producing 228 horsepower and 205 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The limited production run and unique cosmetic features aim to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts of the BRZ model.

The WRX "25th Anniversary Edition" will be limited to 1,025 units and will be based on the WRX's base model. This special edition will be offered exclusively in Subaru's iconic "World Rally Blue" exterior paint. Key visual distinctions include "WRX 25th Anniversary" badges on the exterior and interior, a red stripe on the front grille and trunk lid, and red brake calipers. The interior will feature Recaro front seats with "25th Anniversary" embroidery, a black interior with blue accent stitching, and a serialized "25th Anniversary" plaque on the dashboard. The "25th Anniversary Edition" WRX will be equipped with the standard 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, delivering 271 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, exclusively mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This choice of transmission emphasizes the performance-oriented nature of the WRX and caters to enthusiasts who prefer manual shifting. The limited availability and specific aesthetic enhancements are designed to celebrate the WRX's quarter-century presence in the American automotive landscape, reflecting its enduring appeal among performance car aficionados.

Both special editions are scheduled to arrive at Subaru dealerships in the fall of 2024. Pricing for the 2027 BRZ "Birthday Edition" is set at $35,990, while the 2027 WRX "25th Anniversary Edition" will be priced at $37,490. These models represent Subaru's effort to acknowledge and celebrate the loyal customer base and the historical significance of these two distinct sports car lines within its U.S. lineup.
