2027 Kia Seltos Offers Value SUV for $24,990

Kia launched the 2027 Seltos subcompact SUV with a starting price of $24,990 plus delivery charges, aiming to provide value in a market segment often dominated by larger or more expensive vehicles. The redesigned Seltos features styling cues from the larger Telluride, with a stretched wheelbase contributing to its overall dimensions of 174.4 inches long, 72 inches wide, and 64.9 inches tall, positioning it as a smaller option compared to vehicles like the Toyota RAV4.

This second-generation Seltos is a more considered offering than the first, which was initially designed for the Chinese market. Kia is providing three powertrain options for the new model. Among these, the 1.6 L hybrid variant is of particular interest, though it is slated for a Q4 release this year. An early driving impression of the hybrid Seltos is not expected until early next year, as it is still undergoing EPA certification. Kia has not yet released specific details regarding power, torque, or efficiency for the hybrid model.

The manufacturer provided travel and accommodation for Ars Technica to conduct a first drive of the Seltos, with Ars Technica maintaining editorial independence and not accepting paid content. The Seltos is positioned as a subcompact SUV, a segment that automakers have not entirely abandoned despite a focus on higher-end luxury models. Kia's approach with the Seltos contrasts with some companies that have sought government protection against foreign competition, instead opting to meet market demand with a competitively priced vehicle.
