103-Year-Old North Carolina Estate Built as First-Ever Family Replica of Founding Father’s Home Hits the Market for $9.8 Million

A 103-year-old estate in Asheville, North Carolina, built as a replica of George Mason's Gunston Hall, has been listed for $9.75 million. The property, constructed in 1923 by George Mason's great-great-grandson, is believed to be the first real estate replica commissioned by a direct descendant of a U.S. Founding Father. George Mason, a delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention and a key author of the Bill of Rights, originally built Gunston Hall in Virginia in 1750. The Asheville replica, named New Gunston Hall, spans 8,688 square feet and features nine bedrooms, retaining much of its original character while incorporating modern amenities. Listing agent Alec Cantley of Premier Sotheby's International Realty highlighted the unique historical connection as a significant aspect of the property's appeal, distinguishing it from other historic homes from the 1920s. The listing comes as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, drawing attention to historical properties connected to the nation's founding.
