Amex Launches Restaurant Leadership Academy

American Express and Resy announced the launch of a new national leadership academy on Monday, aimed at equipping restaurant owners and managers with essential business skills. The program, named the Restaurant Academy, is designed to address challenges beyond food costs, focusing on team building, profitability, and navigating the complexities of the modern restaurant industry. This initiative is being developed in partnership with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
The four-month leadership development program will commence this fall and will involve 30 selected restaurant leaders from across the United States. The academy seeks to fill a critical gap in the industry, as culinary education typically focuses on cooking skills rather than the business acumen required for successful operation. Restaurant operators currently face significant pressures, including elevated food costs, persistent labor shortages in many regions, and increasingly discerning consumer spending habits.
Participants in the Restaurant Academy will receive comprehensive training covering key operational areas. This includes strategies for hiring and retaining employees, enhancing the guest experience, and improving financial performance. The curriculum will delve into topics such as onboarding processes, employee development, cash flow management, labor cost optimization, vendor relations, and the interpretation of profit-and-loss statements. The program will also incorporate forward-looking discussions on the potential applications of artificial intelligence within restaurant operations, reflecting the industry's evolving technological landscape.
